Fisheye photographs feel physical because scale changes across the frame. The area near the lens axis appears dominant, while straight lines bow and edge subjects stretch. An online fisheye effect should preserve that hierarchy instead of applying equal blur or swelling everywhere. Start by deciding what deserves the visual emphasis: a face, shoe, car grille, skateboard, doorway, pet nose, product control, or architectural detail. Move the center over that object before increasing strength.
Watch three kinds of evidence in the live preview. First, lines: shelves, tiles, horizons, door frames, and rails reveal whether the curve feels intentional. Second, anatomy: eyes, hands, and limbs reveal whether stretching has become distracting. Third, empty space: corners can expand into visually heavy wedges. The vignette can contain those corners, but it cannot repair a weak crop. If the subject is already cut off, reduce strength or choose a roomier source.
Close foreground objects work because perspective already supports their visual weight. Shoes, hands, instruments, food, pets, and product details can tolerate a larger center. A formal headshot, team portrait, property listing, or document scan usually needs restraint because distortion changes identity, spacing, or geometry that the viewer expects to remain stable.
A centered effect is only correct when the composition is centered. If the face sits on the upper third or a product occupies the lower-left area, move the optical center there. This keeps the focal subject readable and pushes the strongest bend into supporting space. Small center changes often improve the result more than a large strength change.
A restrained vignette can make the edit resemble a compact lens or peephole view. Heavy darkness does not make inaccurate warping look more authentic. Check whether the vignette hides useful hair, clothing, signage, or environmental context. For a clean Y2K portrait or skate image, a subtle edge usually leaves more room for later typography.
Inspect the PNG at the size where it will appear: profile image, music artwork, social post, thumbnail, poster, or slide. A dramatic curve that feels exciting at full screen may make a small avatar unreadable.
